Must agree, looking good, nice and neat - is that window scraper installation a mission or pretty straight forward ?retrovan wrote:well done SIR, looking good

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Re: My '72 Westy
LOL Herman, I’m getting good at this as this is the 2nd Kombi i'm replacing the outside window scrapers.retrovan wrote:And is it soft and does it work, is it local supply or import, will you fit mi......Sorry, got carried away...jolas wrote:Must agree, looking good, nice and neat - is that window scraper installation a mission or pretty straight forward ?retrovan wrote:well done SIR, looking good

The 1st installation was a lot easier. I imported German quality from Busdepot in the US. It was a perfect fit and simply clipped in at the bottom. The beading was curved perfectly.
The 2nd order was from another supplier and a bit tricky. There were fewer clips to clip into the bottom of the door and the profile of the beading was not correct. I had to bend the beading to fit around the corners and had to shape the ends to fit into the frame. It is soft and easy to shape but flimsy.
My other mistake was that I didn't fit the window and window winder first. It cost me some time to strip and re-do. I hope this info helps.

Re: My '72 Westy
Thanks, was it a local supplier or import.
I am speaking to Pro Auto Rubber, and trying to get them to change there rubber formulation, so that the rubber is soft and ply able like imported rubber.
I will be needing all the rubbers in the doors as well as all the windows, as they are all shot.
Will have to start getting collections at the robots ...... .

Re: My '72 Westy
I had replace my windscreen a while back and struggled with the first rubber they gave me. I went back with a sample from Didi and a piece of the original rubber and found one in their catalog, profile number 219 IIRC. Fitted perfectly and the job took a few minutes to do. I'm wondering if this rubber will work for your other windows as well.
The only substitute for cubic inches are more cubic inches.

Re: My '72 Westy
Herman, I share your pain. The German quality kit is $150 per door! that is excluding shipment and taxes. The 2nd set was a local supplier.

I was having trouble with my accelerator pedal . It was very hard and the throttle didn't open fully. I had to replace the worn linkage underneath the floor
