Yeah, it could have been a lot worse, just need to get the carb post back in somehow...

Won't be at VDub Campfest at all, I am away that weekend, yourself?

More than over due for an update, the Variant has been running very well although her gear changes could be better when she gets up to operating temperature. The fuel leak hasn't resurfaced after I scuffed up the copper tube and literally beat it back in to place. With the help of a friend I have started sorting a few issues out and fitting some parts I have gathered but I'll let the pictures tell the story...

Pleasure and thanks  Lets just say, I was one lucky SOB to get the tachometer, a fellow user of another forum I am on had it lying at home after he had it on a Fastback he had back in the seventies...

A few more randoms of my Type 3 Variant...

I was out and about with Stu (Roadhawg) getting a few bits and pieces I needed when we arrived at a Midas in Randburg. Driving in to the parking lot I went a bit too quickly over those damn annoying half ball speed bumps and popped the passenger side of the exhaust off. The Variant sounded like a banshee but luckily we were a few shops down from Speedy Tyre and Exhaust and they were most helpful in getting the exhaust sorted again...

A little bit of negative rear camber...

And then I finally managed to get some parts to get my South African made Stirling roof rack fitted...

And some randoms with the roof rack fitted...

This last Saturday I gave her a long overdue wash and moved the roof rack backwards, so it was over the rear of the car...

Something I love about her is the reaction she gets, from looks and stares to thumbs up while driving, most have never seen a Variant while those that have appreciate her. While I was drying her, a neighbour whom I hadn't met came over to ask me about the car. He had seen it our parking basement and taken a few pictures of it to show his brother. It turns out his father had one when he was growing up and he told me a couple of stories about his father and their Variant. It was great to see the smile on his face as he retold the stories, some day I hope to make the same memories with my cars and children...

It is time to service my Type 3 and I am going to tackle it myself. Any suggestions regarding spark plugs and oil? I prefer Shell oils so use them in all my cars, I presume a 20W50 is correct, HX3?

Thanks for any help or advice...

Thanks Nixon  I hunted for the brackets for the roof racks, eventually a friend came across some second hand, Stirling stuff is scarce these days...

P.S. You'll notice one bracket isn't the same as the others :? Still need to sort that one out...
