Think you need looking at the non-return valve that is inline, they always give trouble, I had to rework mine to make it work.

Have a look

Looking awsome, nice job, I noticed in the pic. that the tin that guides the hot air from the oil cooler out of the engine compartment is missing, hopefully it was fitted prior to the engine going in otherwise you going to recycle hot air, and will lead to a overheating.

Eish, I have no idea what's wrong with the booster, think it's not working at all.
Brakes are good but the pedal is hard.
Will find out about the stuffiies around the engine and overheating, I know that some bits and parts
didn't work and were blocked off, not sure but think it's something to do with the heater.
I'll be back in Gauteng next week Friday, hopefully everthing will be sorted by then.
Thanx for the advice, I realy appreciate it, will let the mechanic know what you guys said.

Cherio till next time!

Where is your brake booster getting air from.

There should be a pipe that runs from the booster all the way to the inlet manifold of number 3 and 4 piston.

You should see a place on the manifold for a pipe fitting to screw into.

I cannot see this pipe on the pictures of your engine in situ.

Dave, I think that the pipe under the carb, passing the back of the distributor cap, is the pipe for the booster.

Image

But the pipe looks new and in one section, and no sign of the non-return valve in the pipe. The non-return valve is a plastic valve that slides into the two ends of the pipe that is cut near the booster.
Also, the other side of the booster, must have an filtered air intake, that is un-restricted, to allow the booster to do its work.

Squire

I have never seen that before. Surely though the fitting from the inlet tube would be to small for that size pipe.

Therefore I ask the question - Is the booster getting enough air from that point, never mind the non-return valve.?????????????????????????????????????

OK, I was picked up from Lanseria airport in my bus!!!
She is running and going like a Kulula Boeing. :D
A Golf 2 booster was fitted and the brakes are 100%.
She is going back though, when you come to a stop/robot the engine cuts out and there is an oil leak between
the engine and gearbox.
I know that the next few weeks will be trail and error, sorting the little things till she is 100%.
Thank you to each and everyone for your advice, it really helped a lot.

Cherio for now.

hi all,

Had my bus for only the weekend, she went back for the oil leak and the starter was'nt . . uhm . . starting.
The fuel gage is stuck at FULL, could land me in trouble. Hubby is gonna fix that himself.

The engine is out again to fix the oil leak, apparently some seal between something and something was leaking.

Will update again when she is home safe and sound.

Cherio for now.

WOW!! Hallo all.

After nearly seven weeks our internet is up and running again after a veld fire destroyed the main cable.

My beloved Priscilla is at the garage again, a seal broke and the engine sucked in air that caused her to stutter and splutter - fixed
The brakes on the right hand side leaked brake fluid and the part on both sides are in the prosess of being replaced.
Had a fuel leak, the tank cracked where the filler pipe enters the tank, engine is coming out to get the tank out to braise the crack.
The speedo cable broke and was replaced.
The barn doors didn't lock, the bottom was rusted away - fixed.

There is still a lot to be done but we will get there in due time.

Cherio till later.

The joys of classic car ownership Priscilla, there will always be something .............

But perseverance pays off, you've done well with this project :hangloose:

(you mean cargo doors, barn door refers to the very first split screen Kombis (early 50's), their rear ends sport a very desirable and sexy (large) engine door) :hangloose:

Jolas, I'm beginning to understand the concept of "labour of love' !!! :)

Ok , cargo doors are for . . . well, cargo. This one is a real COW!!! She behaves like one who belongs in a barn. Sorry, I thought they were barn doors because
they opend like it, I learn something new every time I post something, thanx for the info.

I'm planning my first big road trip for next year to Swellendam, the Up the Creek concert and hopefully by then she behaves well enough to take to the long road.

She had a few outings in the short time since she was going like a Boeing, we went to the road house, a breakfast run to Harties, the dices in Voortrekker Road and the drive in at Menlyn. We got high from the fuel fumes at the movies but we had a blast. These old wonders from the past bring back memories and take me to a happy place, a time when things were plain and uncomplicated but HAPPY!

Cherio till later.
