Hi there Tom.
That preheat pipe from the cyls thru the tinware and flexible to the air cleaner is commonly known as the "stove pipe" When I saw that pic I, for interest's sake went and checked my stash--- got about 3 here!!

Fitted the plug wires and coil this afternoon.

The body is comming along. They are now making sure that the ridges in the body are all square.

Looks good, Tom! Is that the special 'Thing' exhaust that exits through the rear bumper? Does your Thing also have a hole for a crank handle?

Thanks Guys.

73 and earlier had a beach buggy type exhaust system with a 'gas' heater up front. These had a facility for a crank handle as there as no silencer behind the crank pulley.

74 and after had a normal beetle style heater system and a beetle type exhaust system. As this sits behind the pulley, you can not insert a crank handle. Yes my motor has an original 181 exhaust system.

BTW 74 was the switch from single axle to irs at the rear and reduction boxes dissappeared. From the outside the 74 also had large airboxes over the rear wheels and not the kombi style grids in the rear.
