Yes, a good set of disks enhances safety, always a good thing imho.
Very important if it is a daily/regular driver.

On a " show" car that gets driven once or twice every couple of months, with a standard 30/40 odd hp engine, disk brakes are strictly optional :-)

The only reason you fit Disks for the 'No More adjustment' option.
And if you what your Dick to appear longer when you are out with your Pals.

With out a booster they could even be worse drums.

Drum = less pressure on the foot but not the best stopping.

Disks = Lots of pressure on the foot and good braking. That why you need a booster. You dont have the pressure in the foot.

I agree with the booster bit, but the other advantage of discs over drums is cooling, even solid discs don't suffer fade as quickly as drums do, as I found out when descending mountain passes with a trailer on the buggy. Changing to discs cured that problem, but did not really improve braking distance, as Tom correctly points out. And they make you're dick look bigger, apparently, Tom? Can you confirm, I must admit that I don't often look at men's dicks, so I am not an expert...

Wheel arches:

With all this rain around in KZN and driving on the country roads, I was following one of those wire-mesh trailers that doesn't have wheel arches/mud guards. My wipers worked overtime, and thanx to God that I was not driving my a/c.

Brings me to the subject of "rod's". They do not have wheel arches, what is the regulations if any RE: WHEEL ARCHES? A vehicle withoud 'mud guards'/wheel arches create a lot of spray, and those following from behind see neks. I know some folk fit 'mud guard' on their bajas, while others seem to run the fible glass without any rubber at the back.

How safe is this for the other road users - lack of 'mud guards'/arches?
What does the law say (I know what some people say regarding obeying the law, but that is another discussion perhaps!).

Please tell me why I am wrong when I say:
An article(about SA Campers) in a UK magazine will only grow interest, interest grows = movement of cars away from SA = less availability for SA enthusiasts = more profits and encouragement for whoever makes money out of the cycle.

End result:
Less vehicles in SA
Less availability of parts in SA
More interest in SA vehicles in UK (They loooooove to have something different, until it goes out of fashion.)
More sales of SA vehicles in UK
More money for local vehicle spotters.
More money for exporters/importers in SA/UK which in turn means more money available for more turnover.
And as a foot-note:
Being an enthusiast is NOT = to the amount of money you spend on your ride.

That's not how a debate works.
A debate is about convincing people of your views.
I put my views out there, disprove me.
All I got so far is that if I didn't make enough of a financial commitment to my ACVW, I should shut up.
That's not the kind of scene that I want to be part of.

Once again the N.E.E.D. subject has reared it's ugly head and we all know that it causes a problem between those who are for and those who are against.

The rules are clear.Dutch might be taking his cars with, but he is NOT doing it for financial gain and it wasn't planned,so using him as an example is ....erm...wrong.

Eben has a valid point and seeing someone like Nige,a new member on his first post saying he has a SA Camper and on his second post that he needs parts is a very good example of what Eben is trying to prevent.Pine,Blitz, fig and a couple of other guys jump all over a new member that don't introduce themself. This guy comes along and asks for parts and it's ok?

As for the economy,it might be recovering and it might be slow. All the more reason to buy a "cheap car" that you always wanted and instead of buying a new car,why not import? It's cheaper. This week I saw two Autovillas on the loading dock on it's way out.

The one was for sale here in PE for R28 000,or a very low 2000GBP.I'm sure there are quite a few overseas buyers that is willing to pay that price and advertising it will only highten the awareness and the demand for them.

Another car that i saw that was bought by an unknown "English man" was a 1600S for the ridiculous price of R3000.There goes the first one I know of and it won't be the last one.

The one thing that spoils this forum is this never ending debate about things that we can't change or have any control over...

Just so every one knows in advance, If i leave the country my bug comes with me! I rebuilt it, i love it, its mine and i'll take it out if i want to!

Dutch, I hope your cars go with you where ever you go and will be looked after and loved. I would never badmouth and never stop anyone taking their own car out!

Fellas, is this an economical, personal or passion debate?

1. If a fellaspend R3k and bought a "skadonkie", and out there there is a Pom who is willing to tripple that investment, then what is wrong with the fella making a buck? Isn't that what business is all about - buying and selling, PnP vs Checkers vs Spar vs Woolies?
2. I a fella inherits an aircooled and they are into beamers, what then do you propose they do with the ol' toppies Ghia which he bequeathed? Young fella wants to go skiing in Switzerland for a month - sells Ghia in SA, he gets R50K. Sells Ghia in UK, doubles the figure and can go skiing with his mates.
3. An ol' toppie who has created an acvw graveyard comes to his senses and realises that he is indeed sitting on a land mine. Yes, it was once upon a time a passion to restore all them gems, but as he nears retirement and his endowment ain't doin too well due to the economic climate we find ourselves in, how best do you then advice him?

Passionate as all of us might be, end of the day the economics rule. That is why we have the recession!! Money rules. Easy for us to say how much acvws and parts we want to stay on these shores, but end of the day, when the meet is over, everyone has hauled their project back home on their trailers or fellas have driven home in their show/daily drive cars, one is faced by the bills alone. No club pays for the phone bill. No club pays for school fees. No club pays the Sherriff’s office when he comes to attach ones property. Unless we are willing to buy 'at the going rate' (which unfortunately is set by the exchange rate), then we really have no right to shoot a man for exporting, or even importing.

I tend to believe that had ZA rules on import not be so stringent, we would be importing too!!!

Blitz, I think I am with you on this one.
Less time should be spent discussing things we cannot change, rules etc have been implemented on the forum to DO OUR BIT. Lets leave it at that. There is one thing that does get me, its these people who still insist on having a signature including a fasty pic with rostyles, when they can now run steelies as intended :-) !
