Where's that ship going anyway.. Any place where you could bring back a new, working linkage system...

See my claims were correct,

Carb setup may be different to other carb set ups, amazing what can be accomplished when you calmly work things out with qualified help from others, before tearing things apart and trying to cast people in a bad light only to make up for others shortcomings! Happy Motoring.

Well, Bruce, possibly, but I don't like the linkage system at all, it has far too many short-comings, isn't very efficient, and doesn't work on my motor, so for the meantime, they're history.
I'll purchase a proper Hex bar linkage system as I had on my previous 1800 bug, which worked flawlessly. But thanks anyway.
Final fixup, got a size 36 socket and banged off the rear nuts which were overtightened considerably. Cleaned up and lube's all moving points, and re-adjusted the adjusters right down as the pads are new. Also re-did the fronts, and the pedal now goes down about half way, should work perfectly.
I found the rear binding which caused the fluid not to drain back as Armand said, and caused the brake lights to stay on, which in turn, is what originally melted the lenses.. So, they'll be getting replaced hopefully in the next few weeks with my own Remolded versions.. Will show Pics and progress of that.
But at least, for now, it's driving great.

rear axle nuts cannot be over tightened they must be tighter than tight ot else they leak

I agree with Armand.
My biggest torque wrench gets to 450Nm. when it clicks at 450, you then need to turn it until the split pin slots in, so you could be in excess of 1000Nm at the end of the day.

Perhaps you should go back to driving your scooter acpaterson.
Clearly an old VW is not for you. Your problems are not going to end.

Wow, Thanks Sean, nice Aircooled Forum User Support right there.

Riiiight.. I'll keep that in mind Sean. thanks for the "heads up".
Yes, I commute on motorbikes, varying between a 400 cc Burgman, a Triumph Bonneville and my recently sold GS Adventure. The Speedster is a Sunday ride fun project which I've always wanted, and is my 7th Aircooled car.
Ok, I'll pack it in for now. Tony, Armand and Gary, thanks again.

Here is an
"Old Toppie" torque measurement that has never failed me......
You fit a one meter bar to your socket, and you stand on the end. when it stops moving you bounce till it gets to the next split pin hole.....
All done....

Thanks Herman, I remember my old man telling me something similar, but much appreciated. :thumbs up:
@ Flatfourfan, don't hassle buddy, I've decided to kill this post off. I was mistaken thinking it would be a worthwhile contribution to the aircooled forum, but clearly not. So no worries.

Alan

Nah, don't kill off the thread. There are a lot of cool people on the forum, don't let the crappy comments of 1 person get to you.
