Not nessacery as the original colour is still there. Only went to metal where small spots of rust were found. And also shit spray jobs by the previous sprayer. Its really only the left hand side under the door that has a rust problem.
I was quite suprised as everybody expected a bag full of the stuff.

started the old girl after 4 days in cape town and boy did she run like a fat women in sludge...
black smoke and one hell of a stench of fuel. Got her home and found the carb had decided to run rather rich, 2.5 turns of the screw rich. Set that and the timing, made sure the plugs were clean. Test drive is much better, just need to sort out the idle now as it's erratic.

Well it's not aircooled, but I'm so chuffed because after the longest engine conversion in history, my Syncro is running again! I started in December 2009 and he fought me every step of the way, but I started it with the help of Splitfan, yesterday. The golf 2.0l motor runs like a swiss watch and is only too willing to rev. I took a spin last night and it was like the first time again, I just fell in love with that car all over again.
Now that that is finished, I can spend my time on finishing the cabrio (Also going on 3 years in January

)
I would like to thank Jacques aka Splitfan for all his help with supplying parts and also advice. I phoned him all hours of the day and he was always willing to help. Thanks Jacques, I really appreciate it!
