Yeah - what about Nelly?

No chance, the cabrio is almost finished and the only money I need to spend on it is for the engine. The 2 notches will eat up my year's salary and not spit out anything.

I did fiddle a bit on Nelly today. Found the gearbox linkage access panel under a layer of dirt and oil and managed to shift the box into neutral. The coupling to the gbox has basically disintegrated so it's impossible to shift at the moment. Also fitted another wheel as one keeps going flat.

I am very keen to start the engine as the owner said it was still running when they parked her. Would this still be a 6V car?
I suppose I can check the globes and voltage regulator for markings.

Nelly should be 6V, unless someone converted her. Check the small generator and hopefully somewhere in the car (under rear seat left side) the old external voltage regulator - usually Bosch.

Nothing done on the car today, exactly, but I borrowed a trailer and picked up 200 bricks from a friend so that I can raise the wall and start building the roof over the bus.

In exchange for this I promised to do a couple of small welding jobs for him - unfortunately my garage window has been forced and my welder has been liberated along with all of the accessories. Just a few footprints on the windowsill

Don't worry Coop, I know the feeling - had some of my vw stuff stored at a friend's place, he calls me yesterday and tells me that someone broke in there, my type 4 engine bits that I was collecting for 2 years are all gone....


Oh well will just have to source another crank and new pistons and whatever else...some poor soul obviously needed them more than me, curse the mofo that stole them, hope that he never has any happiness in his life.

On holiday at the moment, you can see it's summer time, there are quite a few Buggies parked at the beach...

Installed my coil over chocks today ,only the front ones for now, had them for nearly 2 years . Will most probably do the rear in 2012.

How is the ride now? Been thinking of getting me a set, but never been too sure of the effects/effectiveness of them on a 'std' bug.

My car had basically no suspension in front because it is dropped so low. Now it drives like a Rolls ,The ride is nice and soft.The only thing is that it lifted my front +- 40mm , have to live with it.

Changed the clutch cable on my bus, this is the second time a clutch cable has snapped on me when driving a
split bus, and on both occasions I was using the busses for a job - 1st one was a matric farewell in my friend Jean's
hippie bus, and last week in my Kombi, the bus was used for a promotion, flippin embarrassing man. Learn't my lesson
and now have a spare clutch cable and accelerator cable behind the seat.

I also noticed that the clutch cables for early splits (i.e sample used from '59 bus) seem to be longer than the later splits,
mine is a '64, am I right, have any other bus owners experienced this?

On my old bike I used to run a spare throttle and clutch cable parallel to the originals - just attached with cable-ties (zip-ties). Then when one broke it was only a few minutes to disconnect the ends of the broken one and attach the new one.

On my car today I did (as usual) some sanding of body filler, followed by more of the same. I cleaned all the rust and tatty paint from the front air vent grid and slapped on a little red oxide.

Was annual service weekend for Daisy. Bought all the necessary from Volkspares Jetpark including 6mm fuel hose to run from front to back as the one on there was dodgy to say the least (there was at least four joins in the length from the tank to the fuel filter which is by the gearbox! ) . Got everything sorted and went for a spin and had one hell of a misfire! Checked the points on Sunday and that turned out to be the culprit. New set installed - odd though as it was running perfectly before the service - either way, running like a swiss watch now!

Did a oil change & new strainer on the 58, & sorted a smal oil leak.
Did a 100 mile trip on Sunday half of it in the mid day heat, ran like a charm most of it at 65-75 MPH

I fixed two dents at the left rear. Just slapped on a couple of thick coats of red oxide with a brush to keep the rust away until I can build a roof over the project.
