Heard a large crack when driving the other day and gear changes became about as smooth as a 13 years olds spotty face. Knew what was happening so took it easy. Was reversing out of the house today and CRACK, clutch pedal to the floor time... arse.
pushed it back and started the fun job of disassembling the pedal setup to get to the cable. It had snapped right at the join between the hook and the cable. Personally I'd rather turn rent boy and suck stuff than changing a clutch cable, so it looks like christmas day will see me knee deep in the bowels of the bug.

What's boxing day when not covered in grease, swearing like a miner and disliking ze germans for their pedal assembly?
stripped it all down, filed out the hook on the clutch cable so that it was round and smooth (no catches here) and started the slow and very frustrating task of putting it all back together. The clutch still takes high, but it's about as much as I can adjust the wing-nut at the back, will give it a week to settle and try again. Replaced the accelerator cable whilst I was at it, other one wasn't broken but it was older so thought i'd save future hassles.

Changed from these 185/65/15
to these 195/65/15
Can someone tell me where these 2nd steelies would have come from? I bought them from a chap a while back because they are widened. They nice cos they do not have the 'buldge look' when I slapped the 195's on.

Fitted five new Kumho 165 80 15 tyres to Petrus to replace the Coopers that were fitted about 33000 km's ago. I also had the wheel alignment checked.
Ended up doing the wheel alignment myself, as the techie had no idea what to do with the adjustment of the link pins.
The tyre fitters were very concerned that one of the rims was ever so slightly off center. I told them that after 42 years the wheel is allowed to have a little bit of "character".
Petrus seems to like the new tyres and they seem quite a bit more quiet than the Coopers.

Busy day..
Striped out the inside panels
Sanded down the roof (inside)
Dropped the engin and took it all apart.
Busy cleaning it piece by piece
Checked out the clutch - brand new it seems
Drained the gearbox fluid
Tommorrow - check and replace wheel bearings , reassemble front and rear breaks , have rims sandblasted , continue cleaning engin and buy new gaskets etc for re-assembly.

Check all the different Kombi's out. In every picture there's a different one lurking in the background.
Jolas, I like the rustic shed the splitty is know in. It makes a cool picture.

Ha ha - Dave, there's even one of Fig's westy (Skilpad) in the background, only noticed it after reading your post.
My dad and I have just finshed the "rustic" shed, but need to somehow close off the front, perhaps 80% shadecloth, the rain in the Cape tends to blow sideways, and we also have a lot of mist ..............
I picked up all the roof sheeting on another farm for a bottle of brandy, it really is badly rusted, but will do the job, and the rusted busses "blend" in well !
