Introducing to ACVWSA, my Notch. Bought it in Worcester. It had been sitting under a Eucaliptus tree for many years, save for the occassional warm up and trundle around the Pioneer School at 15kph, just to wet everything, so to speak. I am of course not so much of a believer in nursing VWs too much, but with respect, nevertheless. So I had to drive her back to Melkbos, and I started off at 80, increased to 120 over about 40 k's and she ran great. Got to the Klipheuvel turn-off off the N1 (Fig will know...) stopped and got overtaken by a huge cloud of smoke!

Opened the window, sniffed the air... "Hang on, this ain't oil, this is something much better, maybe from Durbs..." Turned out she had sucked in years of Eucaliptus leaves and was toasting them on the now well warm engine.

Took off again, and arrived in Melkbos without any problems. :D

The Notch came with its original jack, tool kit (including little goodie to pull the hub caps off) but without the reverable screw driver, but I had one lying about, and without the cover over the generator belt. The rear window was brown and the windscreen was cracked, the gears felt like you were looking for a sop-been in n pot sop met n hout lepel, the rear view mirror had completely decayed in the sun. And, she is of course still sporting a Beetle silencer :?

So I got onto T3D, and got a windscreen (2 in fact... ) a rear window, and rubbers, a rear view mirror, metal, not plastic, replaced all that, (got rid of the extra windscreen... ) and got stuck into the gear shift, easy-peezy, brakes, not so easy, both rear slave cylinders were siezed and needed replacement. In the meantime, I installed Beetle brakes at the bake (ex-Rumours), new hand brake cables (the hand brake was torn off its bushing on on side, got it welded up.) Decided she needed new floor pan halves, new slave cylinders and a new exhaust with heater boxes. All those were ordered and are now at home, waiting for me to get around to.

The last pic is at some nice guy's house. Sorry I am so kak with names, Gill makes up for it by telling me "you met them before, such-and-such a place and time, these are their names." I can only apologise for my memory. Anyway, said nice-guy has a splitty which was in very very early stages of project rebuild, but it looks just like the splitty DaveR got a hold of...

Anyway, Notch (she doesn't even have a name yet...) will be there for all to see at the social too. :drunks:

Hi Ron... your Notch is simply stunning.... Of all the Variant variants, I like the Notch the best.... My dream notch believe it or not is a customised one.. and an exact replica of the Boxster notch in the Volksworld mag a few months ago would do fine thanks!.... Simply amazing...

PS: If anyone is looking for any notch parts, Henry broke up one last year and has all the bits and body panels still including a front screen.... or let me know and I can find what you looking for from him....

There's a very clean original paint Notch in this month's Volksworld

I went for a ride in a forum member's Notch last week. What an awesome experience!

They are unbelievable little cars. Sad that there are so few that are left :(
