Many thanks for that. Unfortunately it's not a true colour *SHOCK HORROR* Initially it was a dark midnighty-blue which I still have the radio face-plate in separately. The previous and original owner from new had it re-sprayed some ten years back. I like the fact that with the paint job being that old already, it's got charm! Solid as a rock too complete with fender linings and all!

Love an original looking beetle. This one looks great. Did the previous owner match his new beetle to this one ? Or is that yours as well.

Gavin, thats one cool bug, but tell me how do you open your cubby hole. I have great difficulty as mine does'nt have anything to pull on to open it.

HR
Opening one of those is a skill acquired over the ages. True Beetle Freaks can open that with one hand in the the dark, or am I mixing up skills here

. The cubbyhole can be a bit difficult to open, on one of my previous beetles, cant remember which one, I stuck some of those rubber "feet" on top of the factory one. This made the cubby lid a bit more difficult to close, but when you push the button, it pops open quite easily. Hope that helps.
Still think this 62 looks fantastic.

Hi HR!
Funny you should mention issues with opening the cubby hole... It was driving me nuts! What I actually did was remove the "V" shaped hinge springs that are responsible for "bursting" open the actual cubby hole door from inside the trunk area. I re-tensioned them slightly by clamping the one end in a vice with a rod through the coiled part of the spring and then literally bent the other end so as to cause the spring to have more power. If that makes any sense.. Getting the buggers back in was a nightmare though because they are fighting against you so prepare yourself! Also, a small bit of grease or Vaseline on the push-button catch side will help it to burst open.
Alternatively, I have seen somewhere (haven't a clue where now) that there was an apparent accessory finger-hook that would fit between the cubby hole door surface and the push-button release which would solve the problem altogether. Have no idea if they could be sourced but I am pretty sure someone could make one up... Have a look at the picture...
