Can you license beach buggies for road use?

I heard a while ago that you can no longer license the typical beach buggy style car for road use in South Africa, does anyone know if this is true?

Yeah, it surprised me, I see a fair amount of them around. I'm not sure it's not just some arbitrary rumour so I thought I'd ask the experts here, especially since no-one I've tried to speak to at the licensing seems to know what a beach buggy is anyway.

I've not yet had or heard of such a law.There are lots in PE that is on the road and licensed.
