Disc conversions

Hey guys (and ladies)

does anyone have a ny pics, and details bout doing the disc brake conversion on a beetle?

i might considder it, once i know how much work is needed. i'd really appreciate some pics, esp for the front, to know how the discs, hubs, caliper mount to the beetle stock.

I can supply the complete kit, brake pipes bearings nuts bolts etc, just bolt on. R2200 Front. R3320 Rear.
It's easier than re-doing the drums, I have a step by step how to do it write up that goes with the kit.
It can be done with simple tools in less than 2 hours per side, no rocket science.
Kit consists of all new parts:
Vented disks
Caliper bracket
Hubs
Bearings
Brake lines
Calipers
Nuts & bolts
Brake pads

Kit for beetle only, Buddy and I are working on a Kombi kit but haven't finished that one yet.

I can vouch that Rui's kit works 100% (on a bug) of course.

That disc brake set up saved my ass more than once.

I had to do an emergency stop on the N1 going past Plattekloof. I stopped behind a BMW M3. I could see the disbelief in his eyes in his rearview mirror. He must have been convinced that Thumper was about to imbed itself into his Beemer that was cooool!

Will your kit work on the front axle of a 60 Ghia (Standard rims) ??

This kit will work on a 60 Ghia, but if you intend on retaining your original wheels you will need an aditional adapter, which can be made up as well.

Rui is the back difficult to fit?? and does it allow for a hand brake ?

The rear disk kit comes with the hand brake cables. and is also a bolt on, a few hours work, if you are changing the bearings, which you don't have to then you are in for a few hours more.

Do the front first , that makes al the differance. I did my back a few weeks later and exept for the handbrake that realy works , braking is not that much better. The front is easy to instal. My bug is running with discs front and rear for the last 11 years problem free.The only problem i had was that the discs are a bit deeper in than a drum with a adapter so i had to put a spacer between the disc and the wheel.
