Last week, I saw a small ad for an auction selling some cars that an elderly gentleman had left to his local church (Rustenburg NG Kerk Moedergemeente). The auction was to take place during their church bazaar on Saturday.

The cars listed were the following:
3.0 GLS Ford Cortina
1939 Chevrolet Coupe
1969 MG convertible
1956 Beetle
1965 Beetle
1973 Beetle
1975 Beetle

According to the guy I spoke to, all the cars were registerd, on the road and with all licences in order.

The cars were part of the estate of mr Willie Bruyns age 94 from Rustenburg

I thought that this is the stuff of urban legend and drove through from Pretoria to have a look.

This is what I found:

Proof that if you watch out, you can still find the collectables. Pity about the 56 that the chrome inserts in the rear windows and back window are gone. Probably a restorer that found it to difficult to put them back in.

The parcel tray in the 65 is also a nice item.

Wish I was there, if only I knew.

Thanks for the photo's and the story.

Ok, now that I have composed myself.
Can't believe we all missed this, JMVV, when did you read about these cars btw ?
I have family in Rustenburg, who know I am a beetle nut, who go to the NG CHURCH, and they didnt tell me!! I am going to have a word. Awesome vehicles. That OVAL is just sickening, in fact, any of those vehicles for those prices are like stealing from the church :-)

There was a reason that Robin Hood was good friends with friar tuck... I'm sure that many of us have experienced that bitter taste when you discover that you've lost that one great deal. Hope that something else comes your way to improve your spirits jmvv.

No words have to describe the drooping sensation. The only hope I have it that they were passed on to people who actually know what they have bought. Coz if they were bought as a first "cheap" car for a darn student or some obscurity ... that is where the pain will set in!
