hi have been looking at ways to remove hinge pins from what ive heard you can heat up the hinge (and mess your paint up) and beat the thing out wich has to be done from the bottom then have seen tools that remove them (not in SA) and cost a arm and a leg before you have even paid for shipping or there is this V if anyone has any other methods of how they got ther's out please show us how thanks shane

Karma, that's just a regular two legged gear puller. Should be really easy to knock something like that up from a couple of bits of flat bar. For the number of time anyone would use one, I doubt it would worth having it "made up" specially?
The threaded section on a gear puller would probably be thicker than the hinge pin though. If making something similar just use an 8.8 bolt (not too long) with the point ground to a taper. Use a punch to make a locating point on the end of the hinge pin or it will want to slip off. If you are going to be able to get the pin out without heat or brute force, this will be the way to do it.

Yes, looks like a standerd 2 legged wheel puller to me. I've got one. I would maybe make a more stable "platform" for it to grip onto. But wouldn't you want to remove the hinge from the door first? I can just see that puller slip and knock that beauty-stripe right off the bus.

I found this one on the Samba. Everyone raves about it, but it cannot remove a mirror hinge pin as the tool doesn't have space at the top. Also it costs $180. This other one is sold by Eastwood and looks a lot like a G calmp. I'm busy making something similar using a G clamp. I'll report back if I have any success.

I'll find out costs. Not me personally, just have a friend who might be able to help us out.

Ok guys,my friend agreed to give it a go.
Now I just need some dimensions.

How big the "clamp", diameter of the door pin, I presume the "pushrod" part of the clamp should be a mm or two thinner.
How long should we make that pushrod, I dont have a bus to measure on , so all input would be greatly appreciated.

KK will this at the end of the day fit a beetle aswell?

I dont see why not, a different diameter "push rod" to fit the beetle hinge (if they are even different), and bob's your uncle.

The only problem with this tool is it cannot remove a bus mirror pin that has been cut off like mine because it uses that part of the hinge for leverage. I need something that can overcome this problem. The diameter of the mirror "foot" is about 20mm whereas the normal hinge pin is a lot smaller.

where you ever able to get hold of the measurements for the pin???? i have a hinge mirror pin that i could measure ,let me know if you need those measurements of the hinge pin.

Please send me some measurements, as of this weekend, I can also measure, but lets make sure they are the same.
