Beetle papers - buyers beware

We had a flurry of Beetle papers offer for sale on the forum recently.

Apart from the concerns validly raised by FIG, there is something else to be concidered.

As I wanted to get my ducks in a row for the Twobucks project (which is a bitsa car), I responded to an ad for a set of papers with the metal tag.

Please, this is not an inference towards the supplier; he's allways been a straight shooter and transactions in the past have gone off without a hitch. This is just an example of the reality of living in SA

I paid the money, signed a faxed copy of the Transfer of ownership and sent it back to the dealership involved. That was in the beginnig of May.

A week later, I followed up with the supplier that offered the papers, because I had not received the papers yet. He informed me a day later that he had checked with his local Post Office, and the documents were sent to my postbox. I have no reason not to believe him.

However, a month later, and still no documents in the mail. All I can do is to assume that the piece was swallowed into that great black hole (pun intended) that is the South African Postal (dis)Service.

The moral of the story is: School fees paid, lesson learned - next time I'll insist on Postnet Counter to Counter

This could be a test to see if the papers thing is legal.

Go to the cops and lay a charge of theft. Then go to clearance and explain your problem.
