Hi

I got my first beetle ever, which happens to be an 1600 SP, my problem is that it needs a service, i have changed the oil, but can't seem to find the spark plugs, or petrol filter for that matter???, and have heard that i have to remove the carbs to get to them... is this true? or is there another way to get to the spark plugs without having to remove the carbs as i am no mechanic and worried that i will mess up the timing if i remove the carbs...

Thanks in advance.

IIRC, you will need to remove the manifolds to reach the No1 (right front) and No3 (left front) plugs. (Also if you want to remove the engine.)

Petrol filter should be at the front of the car, between the front wheels. Look for the pipe that runs from the tank and disappears in the tunnel of the chassis. It might also be behind your left rear wheel, in front of the engine cooling tin. (Remove the wheel to see.)

....but it is not uncommon to see Beetles without any fuel filters.
