5 Jul - Red '70 Beetle 1300 stolen from Emmarentia
Last Sunday 5 July 2009 my dear Beetle disappeared in broad daylight from the Emmarentia Dam parking lot. I just spent 11k on the engine and partial paintjob 4 days before.
It's bright red with a small, brown D. Schus sticker on the rear window. Registration VYH148 GP.
I'm not expecting it to resurface, but I still feel I need to put the info out there...

Although a Beetle will definitely float, it will not float indefinitely.

Here are two pictures of my baby:
We moved to Gauteng a while back, and its registration is now VYH148 GP. The CA plates were still in the car, so it'll be easy for them to put those on the car. In fact, the front one was lost last week during a service, so it'll either have NO front registration plate, or a CA one. Or an entirely different set of plates.
It doesn't have the single exhaust anymore, instead it has the normal twin pipes in the back.
Notice the stickers on the back and right windows - basically the only "unique" visual identifiers I reckon. "D.Schul" on the back and "Burnside" on the right.
Exhibit B: colour, almost Ferrari-red
Does anyone have any experience with Beetles being returned? What do you guys think they do with them? Move to Moz/Zim/Bots? Sell in parts?

Re: 5 Jul - Red '70 Beetle 1300 stolen from Emmarentia
Unfortunately my family's experience with stolen beetles are not good. My sisters were stolen a few years ago, also in Emmerentia never to be see.
My brother kept his university beetle for al these years and four years ago rebuilt it to show standard for his son when he left for university. Needless to say the car was stolen after a few months somewhere in Hatfield, never to be seen, oneoff rims, specially imported exhaust and all. If it is not fitted with a tracking device, the chances are slim to find it again.
In any case we hope your car will turn up.

Yeah, that was in the first couple of weeks that I had it. Changed to CA shortly after and eventually GP about two years ago. Still have the CT rear plate on my wall at home. It really sucks more than I thought to have your car stolen.
Now that you're here, Eben - would you mind if I have a look around the offered section?

Re: 5 Jul - Red '70 Beetle 1300 stolen from Emmarentia
How sad that your first posts to these forums are about a stolen beetle.
The fact that it was stolen from Emmerentia parking lot may just mean it was opportunists looking for whatever came by. But I also find it somewhat suspicious that you just had work done to the car. I think it's possible that your car was targeted based on what they learned about it while it was at the workshop, and then the scumbags watched and waited for their chance.
Nice looking beetle; it looks like a 69/70.

DAMN! That's horrible news. Sorry for your loss. I go there quite often for the proverbial Sunday drive and then trot around the dam. There tends to be an abundance of old VW's there on weekends too. I have seen security/car guards but I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them...
Such a loss...

Yeah got it, thanks. I was kinda hoping there would be a couple of Karmann Ghias there, but I suppose it won't be that easy...
