VDO Fuel Gauge Sender Unit

Anybody able to help me out there?

The problem is a fuel gauge sender unit from a 1971 Kombi that I have recently bought. The bus is under restoration with the type 4 engine removed for some TLC. This gave me the oppertunity to remove and clean the tank as well as fixing the fuel gauge which no longer works - the problem being traced to the sender unit being open circuit. I cannot seem to find any data on VDO website concerning the required resistance of this particular unit - VDO#221-919-051-772 - nor can I seem to find a replacement locally. If any enthusiast is able to help me with either the resistance or a local supplier (East Rand) I would be eternally grateful.

If you find any, let me know. I tried without luck. If yours is the type with the screws you can maybe come right with the universal VDO unit that Diesel Electric sells. The late bay one that clips in will have to be ordered from suppliers overseas. Mine is clearing customs as we speak, so to say.

Sorry for Hijack! :D I just have to complement Just Kampers on their excellent service. I placed my order last Friday and within half an hour my order was despatched. I got a call from Skynet on Tuesday morning to pay the customs duties, as they were busy clearing at customs. Excellent is all I can say. :hangloose:

Hijack over.

Thanks- will follow up with Diesel Electric. Have since found out the unit is extinct with VDO no longer making this particular unit.(Screw type as you surmised!) I opened up the unit, which is simplicity itself, and am fairly convinced I can repair as long as I can source the correct electrum wire - shouldn't be too difficult to find. If this works it will open up a load of possibilities.....

Thanks once again
