Align rear axles

Hello

I had to fit a new gearbox to my bug. The manual states that you must align the factory marks up but does not give a diagram. I have found a v grove on top of the axle and a small notch on the trailing arm. I had to scrape the paint /dirt of the trailing arm to find it. Very small.
Question? 1) Are these the marks that I must align.
2) Do you line the notch up to the front, middle or back of the V.

Thanks[/img]

If you didn't notch it yourself you have no way of knowing if that notch goes with that groove.

When replacing Beetle transmissions I've always found that there's a "clean" patch on the trailing arm where the axles bolted up. I just align the axle with the "clean" patch, which is usually exactly the shape of the bit that bolts up to it.

hey guys

You know what worked for me - each wheel can be adjusted and for me the aim was just to get the wheel to stand straight - what i mean is too stiff \ / and the tyre runs off on the outside and too weak / \ and the tyre runs off on the inside.

I simply put the car on a level area and check each each wheel then adjust it a notch or two to get the wheel to stand straight. Remember to move the car back and forth a bit when it comes off the jack for the suspension to settle.

The most important thing for me is how the tyres wear and also if the wheels stand like this: / \ it's going to hit the rubbers with every bump.
