Aircooled VW South Africa

Just got a pretty good quote from Outsurance, but they are requiring a valuation certificate from a veedub owners club or organisation. Now, who here can offer this?

Also, I queried them on the payout value and told them that I've heard horror stories from people, they said that they would honour the value listed on the certificate, anyone have any experience with this?

Dsan, any Barons or VW dealership will do. Did mine with Philwest VW in Cape Town. Got the dealer principal to give the car a once over, we agreed together on an evaluation as he needs to know how much money was spent to get it to present condition.

10 minutes later, I received my evaluation from them.

Im also with Outsurance.

Not all VW dealers will be so amenable to valuing old cars.

AFAIK there is no such thing in SA as agreed value insurance. I may be wrong, as Dutch seems to have an agreed value policy.

The way it generally works is that SA insurance companies will insure whatever value you declare, and take premiums from you accordingly. However, when you claim, their payout will be based on how they value the car at the time of the claim. It doesn't matter to them that you had the car valued at R100k and you paid premiums on a value of R100k; come claim time they'll say sorry for you for paying R100k premiums on an old POS that's obviously only worth R5k and they'll pay out R5k.

If anyone knows of an SA insurance company that will do agreed value and pay out against agreed value, I would love to know about them.

According to outsurance, they will pay out (minus excess) against the agreed value. the car has to be valued by a responsible 3rd party, she said VW or a classic car club.

Fig, Outsurance do classic car agreed value policies....They are the only ones that I could find in SA. I have, as DSAN says, the payout amount in writing and in the insurance contract so they legally have to pay. I was surprised that it was't that much more than a standard policy, around 25% per month for total piece of mind.....good value in my view!

DSAN, I got mine valued at Volksie World and then inspected at a place in Stellenbosch that Outsurance asked once the tracker was fitted to check all the equipment I claimed on the policy was indeed inside MO.

Yes there is "Agreed to Value " insurance.

Like Dsan, I called Outsurance now, and after a lengthy discussion to make 100% sure, they advised that the NOMINATED value agreed to by the VW dealership like Barons etc) in consultation with the owner, would be the amount paid out less the excess.

Thanks guys! It's back to Outsurance for me then. They didn't mention this when I asked a year ago. I've had good service from Outsurance in the past; no arguments come claim time.
