Re: 67 Panelvan
The day has come.
Since the day I bought the kombi the rear hatch was not lekker. Today was the fixit day.
Took everything apart and all the bushes are completely worn. The PO did a fix by cutting the hinge and grinding it shorter instead of going to the root.
Now im stuck with a dodgy hinge.
If anyone has the two hinges that bolts on to the hatch PLEASE let me know.

Re: 67 Panelvan
Would it not be easier to drill bigger. and fit a tube bush in it by welding. ??

Re: 67 Panelvan
First prize will be to replace the hinges with new ones, seems no one makes these ??
Guess I will need to offer Eugene not one but TWO 2020 George Car Show stickers to borrow his to try and fix mine.

Re: 67 Panelvan
The 64-67 kombi rear hinges differ from those of baywindows. But, strangely, i think they are similar to those of type 3 stationwagons.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: 67 Panelvan
Yes, after doing some research I found that the bay window hinges will not work, but did read that the type 3 stationwagen is the same as the splitty.

Re: 67 Panelvan
Been a bit busy between the beetle and the kombi. Here is my attempt at repairing the hinge and the hinge stop which is clearly rotten
At the moment the hinges are being fixed up and new bushings are being made.
Not the best but seems to be in. I can probably clean it up a bit more and smooth it out.
Still need to weld the stop plate, will do that after a trial fit of the hatch.

Re: 67 Panelvan
Another job done. Got some new bushes made and started assembling the hinges.
Getting the springs back in was a lot easier than taking them out.
The hatch opens up a lot more than it used to and closes nicely. Should've done this when I got the kombi.
The next repair is clearly visible in this picture

Re: 67 Panelvan
Took out the engine to clean off all the Tankwa sand.
What can I use to pressure wash the motor with, water and some clean green or paraffin?

Re: 67 Panelvan
clean green with water.
I wouldnt use pressure, you've got no control as to where the water goes.
Also keep the water away from the pulley as it might go into the case
