Tyre suppliers?

Post by vinny »

Hi Guys,

Hoping someone will be able to steer me in the right direction. I've been searching for tyres for my bug and i'm fearing i may go bald as i keep pulling hair out! Seems no tyre suppliers no Beetle spare shops are able to help.

My tyre size is 145 sp 15". Can anybody assist with sourcing these tyres new, or if a decent 2nd set is available i'd be interested also.

Hi there. Please pardon my ignorance, but why would you want such narrow tyres? 165R15's would be much easier to come by... Bit pricey though.

Ciao for now.

I had 205 70 14s on my bus, they were wicked, helped alot with traction and braking, now im on 195 65s,....I think narrow tyres look awkward,....but thats just me.Try the new Hankook range.

Hankook does 165's in 15". Just be warned, never run them flat! they are a soft compound tyre - budget yokohamas.

I must disagree with you Hloni, they are a sub division of Yokahama, made in the same factory, like VW is the cheaper version of Audi,...its the same situation. They have also bought the moulds from Perrelli and 1 other tyre manufacturer, the name sliped my mind.

I know this because I worked for them for a brief period of time.(I do industrial waterproofing, and water proofed thier offices in Revonia)

They make all sorts of tyres, but focus on performance tyres. They have a substantial range of tyres of all compounds.....

This is what I got told by the MD,...a f@cking annoying little asian who does not stop complaining, but is quiet nice when he talks tyres.

Thanks for the tips. Will check out the Hancook range and see if there is something compatible.

Was going to go the wider rim route but discovered that my wheel hubs are 4 stud so i'm pretty limited to rim choices.

Will have the hubs drilled to five stud when i get my Fuchs :D

But for now the skinnys will have to do.

SB, when one goes to their local suppliers, what the chap offers is the softer compound tires. Your little man can tell you all sorts, but the guys supplies what is in demand - if we were to talk of tires in the passanger cars in 15". I do not dispute them making other compounds, I wouldn't be suprised if they made some real 4x4 tyres (not the stuff one sees on X5's, but wheels which Vimpie from Makhado might slap onto his plaas bakkie).

Most Hankooks are .../65's and below, having a great range in the LOW PROFILE range. I do not say that one wouldn't find a lekker compound for the bugg, but I simply give the brother a heads-up. Drive it flat for a few kilos, that is a casing wasted - that is what the chap at Conti-Partners told me!!!
