'61 beetle

Post by paule80 »

Hey Guys

I'm new here, and hope someone can give me some advice..

My father-in-law has a 1961 Bug in Joburg, but will be moving to a retirement village in the Cape and will have to part with it. How much should he expect to get for the car? I think he had a friend offer R20k - is that pretty reasonable?

It runs and is in mostly original condition - believe engine was upgraded to a 1200 at some point, and tail lights replaced with the small oval type. All the chrome is there, Wolfsburg badge on the trunk, and it has some original accessories like exterior sun visor. Think it was resprayed and reupholstered many years back so not sure colour is original, and for the last 3 years it's been standing outside under a disintegrating car cover so condition of some paintwork is quite poor.

A bit sad as was his father's since new - so hopefully will find a good home.

Why don't you keep it, and restore it for yourself, or wife or kid? It does hold sentimental value.
