Hi There,
Am absolutely clueless... what is a 1976 beetle worth, in reasonable condition, engine recently done up, seats redone..
Was in a smash, and need to institute a claim against the other driver- any suggestions?

Welcome beetlebug. Please introduce yourself in the appropriate thread per the instructions in your welcome email.
It's not easy to gauge the value of any car without a detailed inspection.
If you're claiming damages, you obviously want to claim as much as possible. Was you car destroyed or is it repairable? If it can be fixed, then get some quotes and there's your answer. If it's a write-off, collect a bunch of ads for similar cars in the price range you think it's worth and use that as the basis for your claim.
You can claim up to R7.5k in the small claims court without spending a lot of money on lawyers, etc.
