Hello, I am new to the forums.

I am currently in the process of restoring a VW Fleetline Kombi (1954) left hand drive. I am wondering where I could buy new VW parts in SA. Will i have to import parts? Or is there a new parts dealer in SA???

I am based in Cape Town.

Regards

Paladin

You must please excuse some of the characters on this forum.

They may sound mean, but it is always in good spirit(s). :drunks:

You are going to get taken out with the whole German (eary bus) vs Fleetline (later Brazilian) bus thing.

Hang in there. I'm sure you'll get good advice on the forum. :hangloose:

Fleetlines were only made in '75 is what they mean. If your bus is a '54 it is most likely not a Fleetline.

Have you got any pictures of your pride and joy?

Welcome!

Forgot to mention:
I'm busy rebuilding a Fleetline and I'm buying 99% of the spares new from Volkspares, (ONOTHER swear word on this forum) 011 397 4760. The spares are from the US and (cheaper option) from Belgium.

Ya its a barn door. It moght not be called a fleetline, but it has the split window and barndoors on the right (LHD). It wasnt made in brazil, it was made in germany according to its tags.

Thanks for helping :)

They will also tell you that the "Barn door" refers to the Back engine lid and not the side Cargo doors.

But screw them....
Welcome

Barndoors on the right?

From TheSamba
Barndoor Any Bus produced through February, 1955. The term Barndoor is credited to Jeff Walters and is in reference to the large decklid found on those vehicles. Barndoor Type 2's can also be recognized by the lack of an overhead fresh air vent over the windshield, 16 inch rims, the lack of full dash on non-deluxe models, non-opening rear window hatch (a few exceptions); not to mention miscellaneous switches, latches, seats and body panels that are unique to the Barndoor bus and no other. The term is often mistakenly used to refer to the 2 cargo doors on the side of a Bus.
