Been thinking......

We all use our Vdubs for fun and the majority, like family, take them away on holidays. Now while you're on a bit of a road trip, apart from good vehicle preparation and carrying a few parts, you need to cater for your own needs. FOOD !

Now yes you can just stick on a braai when you hit the camp site but what about the road trips that aren't going to involve a nice camp site with braai area.

Shops and supplies are scarce, you can't carry meat for too long, and our vans and bugs aren't powerful enough for all the pots and pans.

So my questions is....... With all the years of experience of the forum members with roads trips what is you favourite Padkos?

Whats the easiest, tastiest way you get by ?

Peanut butter and syrup sammies made the night before
By the time you get around to eating them the syrup has soaked into the braed and made it nice and crunchy

ooh noo Melow thats the worst when that happens to a samie ! I do like those Woolies pancakes.....and nothing beats a carrot muffin and cofee !

I'm not so big on cold hard-boiled eggs, but the stainless steel flask with burning hot coffee is always a winner, complimented with Ouma Beskuit. I've also aquired a taste for cucumber sandwiches with mayonnaise and black pepper, and Oh Boy! Mum remembered Melrose (cheese wedges).

Has anyone ever tried grilling food wrapped in foil on your engine? Dunno if it will work for an ACVW, but it is a trucker's delight!

Bobotie and fresh rolls. You cut a block of bobotie and put that on the roll mmmmmm must go on road trip now

Haha, oooorrrr you could just stop every few hours at a garage (they are like every two hours between) hahaha I think its more of a young roadtrippers habbit though.

My dad did teach me a nifty trick when he goes on business to dodgy and sometimes not halaal food available areas. chips and a bread roll, if you lucky maybe slices of like polony or meatloaf. Lol I laughed at first but its quite yummy.

The normal trip between Durbs and Pta includes moms coffee prepped before departure, a packet or two of chips. Then first stop Montrose, the muslim take away near the kfc makes the awesomest chicken tikka or burgers with a bombay crush.

And then biltong for the rest of the journey.

But hmmm this is merely for like a day trip, I can't say I've been on a road trip that took longer than 10hours.

Japanese noodles and some hot water, which is available anywhere food is sold. Add some wasabi beans, some seaweed rolls and some dried fish and i'm happy*

*yes i've spent a long time living and working in Asia, western food isn't my thing anymore

Home made mince balls,boerewors rolls,fresh ham and cheese samies,cocktail sausage rolls,a couple of gherkins and a one or two pieces of Woolies chicken.

Nik Naks,Simba smoked beef chips,Top Deck,Jelly Babies,coffee for early morning,lots of coke and lots of smokes.

And the first Wimpy I hit,a lovely breakfeast and Mega coffee.

Sarmies:
Peanut Butter & Syrup
Cheese & tomato
Ham & Cheese
Ham / Cold Meat + Mustard

Vinger Food Snacks form the Tuisnywerheid
Sausage Rolls etc...
Pies etc...

Dry Wors & Biltong

Salted Crisps and others ...

#2 Wimpy Coffee & Breakfast or WildbeanCafe

And don't forget the ystervarkies!

When I do the CPT to JHB trip I always stop for breakfast at a wimpy or steers. The rest of the trip is done with take away toasted sarmies. Good reason to take a 10 minute break and get back on the road.... plus plenty of coffee at each stop

I did modify a hooka for road trips making it easy and spill proof hahaha sooo ja sometimes hahahahaha
