USA Trip feedback and pics

Post by splitfan »

Hi everyone, ive been looking for a little time to give everyone thats interested some feedback on our recent trip to the states.
We landed in San Francisco and picked up our RV and headed to Angel stadium for the 1st of three supercross races we were gonna be watching , now on the supercross front its like nothing you can imagine ! Its bigger louder and more fireworks than you can find in Durbs !
We were lucky enouge to meet up with a privateer in the lights class and they "registered" us with the"AMA" as part of their pit crew witch meant we have free reighn of the pits, start and all the "off limit" areas for the three races we went to we got to meet all the pro's and had a ball at all the races !

We planned a route from San Fran to Anaheim and La that took us along the coast and made a pit stop a Laguna sega and met a guy driving a new evo10 he was kind enouge to take us for three laps around the circuit and man ohh man the corkscrew is like nothing and i mean nothing you have ever seen !!!

We spotted loads of vw's along the route and came across this sweet 58" parked next to the road met the owner a guy called Mark and he gave us adresses of shops to vissit in the area !

I needed rings for my turbo wbx motor and we ended up at JE Pistons in Huntington the guy asked us if we were there for the 50th winter nationals at Pomona we told him we werent and get this JE invited us to attend the drag meet !!!
We spend three days living in our RV in the pits at Pomona and met the greatest people you can imagine ! They realy went all out to show and tell us how everything works. Here we are with Art and Jan Peterson who has owned and raced his GTO since he bought it new in the sixty's,

we also met a few airheads this fasty ran high nines with a normally aspirated 2.4 ! WOW !

There is just so much to tell and i have thousand yes thousands of pics so its hard to choose what to post :(
We did manage a show but had to leave early to catch the flight back to San Francisco but wow if this is a winter show i cant imagine what it looks like in the summer !!

In short this has been one of my best holidays ever the people were all super helpfull and friendly (except the fact that they thought we were from AUS  in the begining) Choosing to rent and live in a RV was a good idea as we got to mix with the people and managed to convert a few from "Coors light" to Klipdrift :D ! :drunks:

Thanks for the pictures!! WOW!!! I'm stunned!!

There are some nice cars there - unlike the UK VW scene where everyone does the same thing, the US guys are totally different :hangloose:

Hi John
I guess it depends on the wife, i know me and my wife wont make it and to be honest it could become a issue, the big question is if you get a big RV and have lotsa space double beds and satelite tv its a problem driving the bastard around, then get a small one thats easy to drive and park and you might have a bad case of cabin fever.
But like us just being a couple of guys there was no hassle and having the RV made the trip.
