Hi All,
Herewith my project that started a while ago but only got seriously invlolved in the last few weeks.
Has long as i can remember i always wanted a splitty. My friend called me to say that he spotted this parked in a school grounds.......it was originally a school bus. I made them an offer and they agreed.
The bus sat for 2 years in my garage waiting for sufficient funds to start this project. I eventually decided to sell my 66 beetle to fund this......so i started.....2 weeks ago......
The Fleetline is fully stripped......busy preparing the under carrage for painting. Busy with suspension rubbers and brakes. this should be done in the next 2 weeks and then off to the body shop for painting......

Words cannot describe how happy i am to see a proper split being restored and not scrapped. nice one!

THE BUS AND THE BUG

Amazing bus - you must be very proud of it. Funny how tastes differ - some would want it exactly as it was - others would want to make it brand new , like you are doing.
I say - its yours- do with it what your heart dictates!

After checking the pics carefully, I must say that that looks like the most rust free unrestored splitty I have ever seen. I bet the school kept it in a garage or under a good carport for most of its life!

Lovely looking bus! The panel beaters seem to know what they're doing. Might I ask who they are?

Something interesting, I attended this school (79-82) where this bus came from and infact rode in this bus several times during my time there, Rosetinville Central primary. A few years ago I inqured about it an put in a offer, it was turned down by Mrs Taylor, the principal, at the time they were using it to take the trash to the dump, no interior, they were prepared to do a trade for a bakkie at the time.
The same school also had a 58 bus that I lost out on about 6 years ago to an exporter, and saw it for sale in the UK in one of their mags not long after.
There was also 2 baywindow busses, a yellow 2L that burnt out & a blue Brazilia, I don't know what happened to that one.
BTW that is one solid bus it spent all it's life under cover, glad to see it's turned up again, and getting a resto.

Hi Guys, Yes this is the same bus from Rossetenville primary........using it to dump dirt is what caused most of the damage to the body work.. the bus is quite clean from rust that is...still a lot of work to do.....when i found it, it was parked under a shelter and was not used for a few years......the school indended to fix it but could not find parts so they abandonded it. I couldnt drive it the way it looked Unfortunately the panel beater that i was using let me down.....he had the bus for almost 1 year and did very little....i am currently looking for someone to complete the job. I will keep you posted.......please feel free to give advise as i am new to this restoration process......... Thanks for the feedback.....

Read your story. All I can say is panelbeaters are a breed on their own (Not all of them.)

Restoring might take a while, but definately worth it with what looks like minimal rust
