Hi Guys,
I'm sorry for bringing up this discussion after the last episode with Volkspares.............
But.......they are just so un-helpful.......I have been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks and i dont know why i put myself thru this..........
herewith todays story, i went looking for rear axle seals for my 75 Fleetline......i compared it to a beetle shaft that i have lying in my garage... and they are the same.....the guy insists it is different.....and they do not have for the Fleetline......

See below : CIP1 extract.......
VWC-311-598-051 - REAR AXLE SEAL KIT EA - BEETLE 46-79 / GHIA 56-74 / BUS 50-67 / TYPE 3 62-74 / THING 73-74
Phone-in/Mailorder Price US $3.50
Website Discount Price US $2.75
You save US $0.75!

It is the same as a beetle..........
I am extremely frustrated with the service we get in this country...........
There is a serious lack of alternate suppliers for ACVW parts................

Sorry i needed to vent my frustration.............

Bad service is bad anywhere.... Im probably missing this completely but the CIP1 part listing does not mention anything for your Fleetline.

VWC-311-598-051 - REAR AXLE SEAL KIT EA -

BEETLE 46-79 /
GHIA 56-74 /
BUS 50-67 /
TYPE 3 62-74 /
THING 73-74

If the beetle and fleetline seals you need are interchangeable, its not mentioned above... :?

Before going parts shopping, feel free to clarify your needs by asking questions here. Fact is, poor counter service is not unique to Volkspares. In general, the kinds of people behind a parts counter are not the most intelligent/knowledgeable/interested. They just want to sell you something and don't care if it's what you need.

FTR, the axle seal kit for any split bus are the same kit as a Beetle takes.

I have always found that if the part you need is the same as a Beetle, then ask for a Beetle part and don't mention it's for a bus; it just causes confusion among people who are already easily confused.

Fleetlines are a unique mix of early and late split bus parts. Having driven Fleetlines for literally hundreds of thousands of kilometres, I have learned what is what through experience and I'm always happy to share what I know.

dont get me started on the most unhelpfull company on the planet . Ive brought parts from most countries in the world through work but south africa is ususaly a little harder but not normally that hard untill i wanted parts for my sp volkspares have the part i need alledgedly !! , slow to reply to emails , wont give me the weight so i can get them collected by carrier quite willing to pay by bank transfer so no problem with payment or shipping for them .
never have i delt with a company who does not want to sell parts it just leaves me speachless lol

rant over

Is that so? I always assumed the stub axle (the driven shaft coming out of the RGB) is thicker for a 46mm castle nut bus than the earlier 36mm castle nut bus, which I know takes the same seal as a Beetle (36mm castle nut).

Are the splines etc on a Fleetline the same as on a early T2 1b? I'm assuming the Fleetline RGB is the same as that of a T2 1c. Is this correct?

Well, I'm back on the RGBs again in a week, stripping, comparing, measuring, collecting and cataloqueing parts, designing, etc etc. So I'm bound to find out...

The axles are not the same diameters. However, since the seals do not seal against the axle but against a spacer, the ID of the spacer varies dependent on axle OD, while the OD of the spacer is the same acorss all, hence one seal fits all.

Some say the bolts used to keep him together have KDF stamped on them and made of figonite

For the Bug guys-- don't forget to change the "O: ring behind the spacer and on the bearing itself - often the cause of the leak anyway!

That applies to buses as well. The small o-ring on the axle is critical.
