Aircooled VW South Africa

I took delivery of a 1977, 1600 Ford Escort MK2 today.
Ex Namibian car, no rust issues.
EVERYTHING WORKS, even the interior light... yes, even the clock.
174k Actual kilometers on the car.
One family car!
All papers, including service history book, OG owners manual and VALID RWC.
From what I know about the OG tools, even that seem too all be there.

The whole deal is being done in order to help a friend with a car.
So, although the it's mine on paper, I'm only facilitating the loan.
I drove it home today and it didn't miss a beat, breaks are great too.

But I must admit, I had a rather strange thing happen to me.
Thing is, I'm rather adamant about not buying a water-cooled car again... EVER!
But this little car had me wrapped around the proverbial finger, in seconds.

I like it, I like it a lot.
And suddenly I'm rather jealous too

This was my fisrt car and not too difficult to work on - much like an aircooled. I have a complete motor sitting in my garage with adapter plate for vw but not sure when/what/how.

When are you gonna start painting parking bays in the circle. Do this before the neighbours start complaining.

I loved my MK2 1600 Sport! but as old cars went, everything failed at once, Alternator, Motor, all the pumps you could find on it, but I redid the motor to a bigger bore, replaced all the faulty equipment and found a nice set of wheels for it!

Sold it to buy my first VW! Was sad to see it go!

im proud to say i have a 2nd owner 1969 MRK 1 escort, which is my daily driver, 200 000 kms og motor box, only things i have changed mag wheels steering wheel and taco !! 60 kms round trip every day besides friday which is bike day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey boet... i still have a hankering for a mk 2 ford escort as well. learnt how to drive in a cortina, a nissan bakkie, and a mk 1 escort... so i know what you mean. they can be lekker.
