Have been stripping her down to the chassis, found a few holes in the floor due to rust, but can be saved, motor is not turning at all, shocks are done for aswell as the brakes.

Damn I like that beach buggy ALOT,especially the engine, looks real nice. And those rear wheels and mags are really sweet, I see it has a strange pcd, probably will need adaptor plates to get new mags, but who knows maybe we'll just refurbish these ones

please move that fuel filter before you start the engine again..... plastic filter resting on hot sylinder tin is a recipy for fire...
move it closer to the gearbox

Love it! Congrats with the find, and bestaluck with the build.

I am however a bit worried about that large hole in the top front of the transmission tunnel - some genius probably cut it open to get access to the clutch cable? Get if fixed to keep the structural integrity of your chassis.

Did you perhaps find some body tag giving you the name of the kit and/or serial number?

Have a look at http://www.beachbuggyclub.com/ as well - there is a whole lot of ACVWSA Forum members there already! :hangloose:

Howzit guys, the project is comeing along, fixed all the rust spots on the chassis, removed and stripped the engine, started with the primer and sprayed the body and wheels so long,
The engine's one piston got rusted to the sleeve so it was one hell of a mission to get those 2 seperated, that hole in the transmission tunnel was full of shit, seems like the buggy was home to some mice or rats, took alot of time cleaning it out with the longnose and moms vacume cleaner.I think that was the reason for the piston being rusted to the sleeve aswell because i found sone crap in the exaust aswell, bought another beetle off gumtree just for the engine, hope it works...

Nice Job there Boom,

Strange enough...I transported my Buggy project from Durbs on that exact same trailer.

Please share some of your research around the Scooby motor, I am also interested in going down that route in Phase 2

Enjoy
DS

Howzit guys.
Put it back together again, after the 3rd motor it was driveable, was such a mission to sort out the brakes,at every connection it leaked, electronics sorted out, went for a few spins around the block then took it for a ride a bit futher with no problems at all, going to upload pics ASAP.

yes we did all the work inside the garage and the spray work in the driveway, I think it doesnt look 2 bad for a backyard job, only problem now is the steering needs to be sorted out..
