Hi guys

I got reid of my '76 Brazilian Bay/split hybrid this week and got hold of this new baby.
Unfortunatly she hasn't got any camper furniture, but I will be working on that in the next few months.

Got 4 brand new tires on Friday, and a new battery and she drives like a million bucks again, only had misforunte with the clutch cable and the gear lever bolts were stripped, baut that is all fixed now. I also gave her a good polish and wax tonight, which brought back a lot of colour.

If anybody has any ifo regarding this bus, please contact me, all that I know is that it was called Cafe on wheels, and as the name states, it was most probably used as a mobile tuckshop.

If anybody has any pictures of this kind of camper, especially the interior and the top part popped up, please post it here, as I have no clue as what needs to be in the back

Thanks

Darrrell

Yes, that's a Dormobile roof. The bus may or may not have had a Dormobile interior but, judging from the pop-top position, it would have had the dormobile interior.

Jean Viljoen on these forums owns a complete, restored early bay Dormobile. Contact him for detail pics. I have a 63 split Dormobile, but the interiors were completely different. I must say that personally I don't fancy the early bay Dormo interiors; the double bed is too short and too high up. But speak to Jean, as he and his wife have travelled and camped extensively in their Dormobile.

There should be two folding bunks inside the pop-top.

Your bus looks like a 72 with the front indicators filled in and later ones added.

It is a '72, I peeled of a sticker in the door frame that revealed some german writing, with the date of manufacture 72/06..
I was more fimiliar with the 1600TP, and as far as I know this has the 2000 engine in, is it a lot more complicated, and are there specific things that I must look out for? I saw that it has the same choke mechanism as my 1600TP, the solex auto choke.

I really enjoy the little extra power from this Kombi, now I will be able to tow my bike with it, and enjoy two hobbies at the same time!!! Thanks for all the info so far, it is much appreciated.

My LHD '72 has the Dormobile pop-top roof but a Westfalia interior, which is very well laid out and the bed is quite roomy enough for two :drunks:
