My Purple Monster

Hello "Airheads". I am excited that my project is back on track again. I bought a beautiful 1972 purple Beetle with a genuine leather lilac interior to go with. However, the seller said the engine had seized. Upon removing it and stripping it, it turns out a conrod cap screw failed and came apart, hence the engine would not turn. There is no hole on the casing. I don't know yet if the casing can still be used. It is a 1300. Assuming the casing cab still be used, is it worth all the machining to make it a 1600 or must I just look for a 1600 motor?

nice pics please
u only need to machine the heads bigger
just make sure the valves are 35.5 in and 32 ex
and u should have no other problems making it 1600
by just changing the sleeves

The monster broke a conrod on the crankshaft end, piston 3 and dragged the cap right round until it jammed. Is there a likelyhood that the crank could be bent? Must I worry about the parts of the case that got scored in the process. Gentlemen, the case is so beautiful, it is not funny. Standard mains, standard big ends and no wear on the rear main seal area. I really want to use this casing.

Hi Oil stain. Thanks for the info. Volks Engine says I must expect to pay a max of R350 to have the crank crack tested and the casing visually examined. Is this right?

After careful examination, it turns out that one of the lifter bores in the crankcase is cracked. The crankshaft is also bent. Now I need a casing, a set of 1600 sleeves and a crankshaft. Any assistance gladly welcome.
