Hi Volks
I have an OG Sterling 3 roof rack for use on VW type 3 Variants. I do believe that this model of rack could be used on either a Fastback (it came off one), a Notchback, or Squareback as it is adjustable for roof width while it should clear roof heights. The adjuster is unobtrusive and cant be seen like on some universal or home made racks. This rack is marked "Sterling 3" on the clamps and is in complete condition, finished off in white. This can easily be re-decorated to your own liking.
Please view attached pics and contact me ASAP.
Best offer as they are rare!

Not wanting to piss on anyone's battery, but that is not a Type 3 rack, it is a Stirling universal sedan rack. These were still in production up to the mid-2000s.

Seeing that you did not want to piss on anyones battery, I guess makes it ok.
I got it off an older gent who used it on his Fastback. Its marked Stirling 3 as in the picture and he also advised that it could be used on the other "Variants"
Going on what Fig has so kindly said, lets call it a Stirling roofrack, marked Stirling 3 on the clamps that can be used on Type 3's, that came off a fastback, where the previous owner advised that the height and arc of the bowed clamp should clear other Type 3 Variants roofs as well.
Its in real nice condition with no rust, and its still for sale, with 3 offers pending via PM. You are welcome to retract your offer based on Figs contrribution, no hard feelings at all!

In that case there's a whole new market - It should fit on a bus
Should be cool on a single or double cab or as a rear rack on a kombi

No, it's made for a flatter roof. The bus roof is domed too much. You need to modify the legs for it to fit a bus. It will fit pretty much any car roof that has a traditional gutter and is narrower than the maximum distance between the legs, and is no higher than the distance between the feet and the base of the rack.
As Muds has observed, these racks fit Type 3s very well. Pine had one on the Khaki Cruiser.

That rack was on a bus involved in an accident, and the legs were the only parts that I could use.,....other wise I would have used that one instead.
