Just a little update. Fitted brake pads and a new speedo cable and detailed two more rims today. So things are coming along. Slowly but surely. :D

Did the detailing of the last rim today. It took much longer than I thought it would. Now the real job begins. Fitting the 2T Toyota lump will not be easy. But I think I am up for it. Must just clean up the motor a bit first. Will do that tomorrow and post pics of the end result. :D

Okay. Air ducting done. Motor fitted. Cooling system sorted. Fuel system done. Just a few bits and bobs to sort out like exhaust and wiring, then I can fire her up. About time the old hag comes back to life don't you think.

Some day I will own a proper aircooled. The bus is standing at my place with a blown 2L. Will post pics of it. Just waiting for the owner to make up his mind.@ Golfmad. No this one is stroked to 1800 with a 3T crank and lots of other mods. Claims of 200 Bhp was made by previous owner but that sounds a bit far fetched to me.

I started the engine on the ground and it sounded nice, but that was without an exhaust. Will be fitting exhaust this week-end. Think I will run at least a 60mm pipe through an eagle performance box. This thing will be loud!

Fcuk, I hate this weather. Rain and welding don't go together to well. But like some-one once said. The show must go on. Will just put a tarp over the tailgate and proceed!

Despite the bad wheather( which later cleared up) I managed to finish the exhaust system.( Did I mention it helps to have a son that has done a welding course?) Not that I am totally helpless with a welder, but it is much more convenient! So I can wire her up and get the old lady started. Sorry no pics as the camera died on me.

Looks like Toyota's interesting pushrod 1600/1800 engine from the 70's? They used a very clever and unusual cam/pushrod arrangement to make possible a true crossflow semi-hemi cylinder head.

That engine actually looks more compact (not as high), and nicer looking than the very tall/thin Golf engines...
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).
