So, after fitting the Weber's, and tuning the car as best as I could by means of two hoses to my ear's, with pieces that I chopped from my hose pipe.

The engine was running fine, like an OLD man's car should........

Then I got into thinking, do I have the right Plugs in this "Altered Engine" ??????

With lots of questions to the right guys, as well as studying the plug manufacturers web sites, I decided to get me a set of plugs.

With every change off standard, you should cool down you plugs, or kill the engine.

So I changed to Not the std plugs that I have always used in my VW motors, but something that made sense on the NGK site.... :) , the NGK-R BPR7ESZ-N

Boy, what an improvement, the whole engine is not only crisp, but willing and instant response.

And NO, its not a hotter plug, but actual, its a cooler plug, that's why it works.

Then removed my front shock, to get two replacements in the morrow,......

Set up the clutch cable for full release.

Till next time....

Well guys, its been a year, and then some, the :bn: hit the fan a few times, other times things went very well, BUT at last the Fastback is on the road, and driving well.

Went on the 1st outing today, for a 80 Km round trip breakfast, Ran like a dream, what a feeling to run the thing that you have worked on for so many hours, man this was great. :D :D

For the guys with 20/20 vision, (HR) you will find that the back storage compartment is still awaiting the carpets, the arm rests still await the arrival of the rest pillows from the Upholsterer. Also the under dash cover, Yes, they do not come out with them, but mine will have a white one, with a parcel shelf, ( note to Santa.....)

Well here goes, the Photos of the (more or less) completed 1968 Fastback :D

Thanks guys, I am sure with out all your help, this would most probably not have been possible. Thanks again ALL OF YOU.

Hey, HR, Did you not know stripes are in this year.........

Good paint job, :bn: camera.

What confuses the camera, is that there is very fine metallic in the final clear coat, which looks brilliant in the sunlight, but confuses the :bn: out of the camera.

Thanks for the compliment, I think.....

The carbs are twin 34 ICT Webers, work fantastic on the 2000 type 4. :D

Cool. Thanks, mine is running Dellorto's and I have a modified engine cover. Was wondering how you were using the original.

Obviously the dells are taller than the Webers.

Got a set of short manifolds from Rui, skimmed them down a bit, and got supper thin cleaner.

Also no heat spacers, also in the box...

Getting the fastback ready for RWC.

Lifted the back springs a bit, now its more horizontal, and looks less like a dog with broken back.

Had the drums cleaned, and fitted Newly re-bonded shoes.

Flushed the brake fluid line again, and set the brakes on each wheel.

Set hand brake.

Had to find the cause of the jumping speedo, Removed the cable, re-greased it, but found no fault.
Then I removed the speedo, and found the magnet drum axle was to thigh, striped the speedo, cleaned the shaft's, and re-greased it, re-assembled it, and yippy, it working fine. :D

Now I only have to set the head lights hight, and ready for the little guy with the big white coat, and little clip board, and big pair of glasses.
