Thats dissy is 100%. Come visit me, I'll show you how to lock it.

Also no module will be required as the ecu has a built in module and it will control the advance. All you need still is a Golf square type ignition coil and some bougi cords (carbon core leads).

I do not think that bougi makes a copper core lead, so they should be ok. The ignition coil should be +- R280. I've got a couple of them here at the shop.

Remember I'm just a poor fool  with limited budget but lot'sa willingness to help & learn

Let's see if I can get this done and have her rolling in style and safety, I drive her petrified that she's overadvancing at the moment, don't want any more damage or setbacks,:hangloose:

Well, I've given you a real good price on the ecu.

You are more than welcome to come do the installation here at our shop under my supervision and I'll help you do the ignition timing. Cheaper than that you are not going to get and then you learn at the same time.

Give me a call when you are ready. :)

So the fam took a drive out to 4adedub's place, except for the traffic jam on the way there she was running beautifully, never had to downshift and she ran smooth as a kitten, 4age gave me some good advice ( thx's, 4age) and I'm sure I will fit the Gotech ecu,
On the way back picked up on the speed a little, cruising happily at 120 km/h in 4th, push the pedal flat and woosh! Surprised quite a few othe road users :D Feels like I need another gear though, so for her first long highway run it was pretty neat.

Still one problem untill I can get the boost retard on the ign timing, I asked 4age what detonation under boost would sound like and he gave me a description that really surprised me, it was excatly what we we hearing at some times  , up to now Iv'e learnt a lot about detonation but never knew what it actually sounded like,

Check the advice threads for a fun one :D

Ok, so it's been a week since the last post, been driven to work and back each day and some fun driving under boost some evenings, so far so good, backed down the boost to max .8 bar and locked the dizzy tabs to advance to max 22deg, she seems a little rich and I"ll wait to get the Gotech system from 4Agedub for the ignition in order to correct the fuel issue, when she starts up in the morning, the water coming from the exhaust pipe is very black and leaves black spots on the paving, she starts relatively easy even in the cold, but will leave puffs of light smoke when boosting as I look in the rear view mirror but that's fueling, also being thinking of fuel injection but that can wait till after winter.

I have'nt heard any form of detonation so far

Hi Bratjie,

I'm glad you sorted it out, stuck with it and by now you are hooked!! Going EFI makes a lot of difference with adjust-ability. Keep us up to date please. The other people don't expect responses like that from a Beetle and it is just so much fun to see the faces.
