I have been thinking about something like this for a while now and decided I have a few spare engines lying around, so what the heck.
I have been sourcing some parts and prices for this build and was thinking of something in the lines of this,
Standard casing, linebored and checked,
Standard tp heads with some porting done
Standard valves, cut 3 stages
Chromoly pushrods
Chromoly cotters
Chromoly retainers
Solid rocker shaft
1.25:1 rocker arms
High rev valve springs
TC 10 cam
Lightweight racing Cam followers
Double thrust cam bearings
36 Dellorto turbo prepped
Boost sensitive rising rate regulator
Uprated fuelpump
Tuck away turbo exhaust system
T3 Turbo
Standard crank, flywheel & pistons
Intercooler
CR 6.9:1
24 degr total advance
5500 rev limit
Who'd like to guess power output on the flywheel for this configuration?

my 2cents
counterweight the crank
dont use the TC10, but rather a W110

I would rather swap the std pistons for a set of forged ones just for peace of mind, also a counterweight crank is a must if you rev it over 5000 rpm on a regular basis otherwise you just going to pound the main bearing saddles oval, otherwise I think your list looks good especially the fact that you are upgrading the valvetrain with all the good stuff.
If you can, upgrade the std valves to Stainless ones, they handle the heat a lot better and they are one piece unlike the std 2 piece exhaust valves that can break.
If you have a good stock crank Dave Rowley can counterweight it for you for underR1000 or maybe someone up in Gauteng can do it for you. Also get the crank and flywheel 8 dowelled, I did this on my Mild Street 1600 engine just for peace of mind it only cost R200 which included slightly lightening the flywheel too.
Dont forget to get everything balanced.
Im thinking about 120 - 140Hp at the flywheel depending on the boost
Good luck with the build, i'll be keeping my eye on this thread

Dave Rowley actually suggested the cam, I was initially thinking a W100 but he said I needed a "Turbo cam"

Thx's for the advice Edmond, but my budget is already fubar, I'm on 11.5K already and still need to get;
Plenium box
Dump valve
Boost guage
Rev counter with shift guage
Plus plumbing and so forth,
I can always add the forged pistons & stuff later, for now I'm just experimenting,
I still have the Wasserboxer Turbo engine I bought from Drift'Z so I'll do a better job on that next time

From my reading and talking to people, the general consensus that I have noticed is that for a street car with a turbo, you still want a N/A cam simply because the car spends 90% of its time off boost and is therefore still theoretically N/A.
The TCS cam is a turbo cam made to be used on boost.
I stand under correction - but this is what I have gathered over time.

T3 way too big for your aplication will boost only after 4000 rpm right near the limit with your stock crank. Try a t2 from an old exa. you dont need the fancy pushrods or followers or cam I wsould go for ss valves though the springs maybe but urated sprins come onto their own if yoy rev 6000 but not with a std crank.
Cooling the thing will be a bitch (I speak from experience) uprate the pump and use a huge oil cooler as well. I built a 1600 with a t2 and a side draft about 10 years ago: the clutch didnt make it it detonated like hell because of poor fueling but didnt hurt the stock pistons. it also revved past 6000 rpm which wasnt possible normally aspirated.
Armand
BTW most good turbo cams are actually milder than std cams as you dont want overlap which bleeds boost to the exhaust.

I read somewhere on The Samba that the best cam for a street driven turbo motor is the stock cam, there is a guy on The Samba that has a turbo 1600 single port making 170Hp at the flywheel using all stock internals even the cam.
A 30mm oil pump as Armand suggested is a good idea Dave has the right ones for the 3 bolt flat cam at a good price.

We've done a couple of 1600 tp turbo beetles before. The best turbo so far for that application is from a 1.9tdi vw.

Check in the speed and sound aswell there are a couple of turbo places around these days there is one with al the prices think a tdi turbo should be between 3000 to 5000 rand...louis did you guys ever use a t 28 turbo heard they work well but you need the right ar ratios i think .45 cold side and a .48 hot side or was it the other way around gotto go look for that post on stf again...but its a guy with a buggy and 1600 turbo that makes many of powa!!ps.bratjie j sal my moet kom haal vir n spin as hy klaar is haha....

No problem Dub, can't wait to feel the improvement either, we'll get together
