Finally got my bus' papers....

So nearly 4 years later I have my papers for my bus....
Bought in 2007 and I didnt really get to trying to get it into my name till 2008. Then only I realised the scrapping paper I had been given was for a different bus. So I had to go the built up route.... Police clearance, weighbridge submit all the affadavits. Then I get told that the bus is on the system so cant be introduced as a built up - I must get a duplicate reg. And its still in the original owners name.... and there have been 2 owners in the interim.
So I track down the 70 year old registered owner in Maunde (Pta east), who says the car was taken from her without permission.... eventually I persuade her that I bought it legally and she agrees to help me. She doesnt have papers anymore, so we go to apply for duplicates. I arrange a day to collect her - and she brings her 18month old screaming randdaugher for the full day running around Pretoria, Waltloo and back to her place for proof of address only for licensing to tell us its not on their system. What a nightmare. Turns out its on the archive so will have to be introduced again anyway. Luckily I get her to do an affadavit giving me the bus.
When I went back to licensing the woman who gave me the details of the owner remembered me and agreed to help me since I had tracked down the owner instead of just giving a long story. So then it was new clearance and affadavits and she submitted the papers. Then a further clearance and lastly to registration to submit the change of registration... This took 3 times as her previous ID on the system was form one of the homelands and had been long since lost.
But eventually I received the papers last week. All legal and in my name now, just the RWC to go and then I will get a licence.
So in short, make sure of the papers when you buy. It can be done but I sure as hell wont be doing this again. I reckon this has cost close to 3k in service fees for clearances etc not to mention the time taken. But I do feel better having got it out there now...
