Hand made copy from East Germany. There are a few different styles of these about, mostly with kubelwagen running gear, and made from a variety of materials. This one looks like it's made of wood and aluminium.

no the one in my avatar is a very special bus....I've seen it discussed on the Samba forum , Vintage bus forum as well as the SSVC forum
...it has a ragtop and winding windows in the back...and made of rusty german steel ! :lol: :lol: :lol: so def. not made from wood on a kubelwagen chassis !

NOTHING crossed from west to east. The only car that normal folk in East Germany could buy was the Trabant, and the waiting list was something like 20 years. If you were a Party official you could get a Wartburg. Just about the only other cars in East Germany during the Cold War were Russian models like Ladas. Because of this, enterprising folk made cars out of whatever they could, usually World War II survivors like kubelwagens.

it must have been kak for the Guys from the east to see the new buses and not being able to own one ! :(
