Hi all,
The fuel cap above...is it perchance a generic VW item? Generic item period?
Thanks, Nic

I've never seen one like that on a bay or splittie - perhaps just an off-the-shelf item of the time ?
Does it fit on your bus ?

Hi Jolas,
What I thought was fact, now has me more confused than ever...
Than cap is off of my second Fleetline. I have not seen another like it. I was under the impression that it was original.
In eight years no-one has been able to definitively tell what a 'proper' Fleetline fuel cap looks like.
Fleetline #1: Church fuel cap, locking fuel cap (no photo at present)
Fleetline #2: Non-locking flap (and it is slightly different to #1 too in other respects too), ^^^ that fuel cap
I had two lockies look at it but the internals were so seized, even after two months of oiling and cleaning, that it had to be taken out bushman style.
I have yet to find two Fleetlines that were built identically. They really were parts-bin buses.
I'd still love to know what the more common type of fuel cap is though.
Anyone else care to chime in with their experiences and photos?
Thanks, Nic

My Fleetline also had a lockable cap when i found it but no keys , i might still have it somewhere i will check ,i used a "pirate/aftermarket" steel oil cap for a fuel cap on the 15 window and on smelly.

Most Fleetlines (those with the church key fuel flap lock) have a screw-on fuel cap with a VW logo. I've posted a pic for you before.
I have no idea what locking fuel cap came with non-locking fuel flap Fleetlines.
All VW parts have the VW or VW-Audi 4-rings logo and a part number. If this isn't marked VW then it's likely not VW. Where is it made? Brazil? China? Taiwan? That should give you some kind of clue. All the generic locking fuel caps I've seen in SA had PJ brand keys (Journee & Co, France), FWIW.

Here's the standard Fleetline non-locking fuel cap:

My apologies on the multiple threads. It completely skipped my mind that I should've continued the discussion in the old one, Fig.
Thanks for all the info', everyone.
Splitfan - that would be appreciated. Thanks. If is 'correct', I can have a lockie look at making up a key for it.
I've been rather busy with the rest of the engine bay, so the fuel cap was left for cleaning at another stage. I'll check it over for logos later this week.
That is an awesome cap', Fig. I've never seen one like it before. Was it available on anything else?
Cheers, Nic

I sent that pic to you more than three years ago! I've only seen those caps on Fleetlines.

I don't recall, but thanks anyways. I deal with far too much stuff in one go - and have a pretty dire memory at the best of times.
I've come across quite a few scrapped Fleetlines in my time...none with fuel caps. C' mon...someone's hiding a stash.

Own up!

FWIW, on my fleetline, non locking fuel flap, black steel locking fuel cap, no vw or audi logo's, no markings at all actually, but has bronze coloured key with the letters F.A.F.
Doesn't clarify anything I',m afraid !
