Yup, my beetle decided that she did not like her current one and broke it. So I need to find a replacement.

Where would I find a serial number? If this box is not good enough please see my post in "wanted - Body & pan" there are three cars all with boxes still in them if your'e interested, haven't driven any of them but they should be good. Let me know, you'll see in the pic's what I mean by the selector shaft and housing.

I think the guy said it was the selector shaft that broke. They guy that sold us the beetle never put oil in the gearbox :? She was running since December last year. We did not worry about it cause there where no leaks and the engine was in such a horrible state that we focused on getting her running more than anything else. The good news is that we got the gearbox running again. But it is not a permanent fix more like a "boer maak 'n plan" kinda deal.

This looks like a late model box

Check opposite side of where you fit oil onderneath there will be stamped codes LEtters

Loui that seems like the right donor for you so I can build you a box if it is SFAS
Location of gearbox code type 1 transmission.gif

is it the same?
@ bratjie, You have a pm.

You need to use the bus selector housing and selector shaft and all the bus mountings when fitting the beetle box or RGB`s and swop the diff around

Bugger, so I can use the sf box with my old selectorshaft and selector housing.
I know you have to swop the diff around to have 4 fwd and 1 rev gears because of rgb's

Is the final drive/diff on both the same ? or does it differs?

Diff ratio is longer on the SF and yes yes to all the other Q`s

Bugger, do you know what the std gear ratio is the sf gearbox?

How do one use your application/ excel spreatsheet when calculate the speed at specific rpm with you reduction gearbox?
