Type 4 into type 3

Post by IMPI »

Hi I am busy finalising a nice type 4 into type three for Eddy snr.
Engine is a 1700 type four
valves are from a 1800 (largest std valves) obviously new seats as well and mild porting to suit
cam is a scat c25
flywheel 210 mm
hd oil pump
empi exhaust
I am aiming for about 55 kw which should wake up pines old LHD Squareback
Image
we are using 411 variant carbs for a stealth std look
Pistons are non vw flat tops for slightly higher cr
Image
crank and rods rebuilt 1st oversize
Image
crank being installed just look at that huge casing
Image
oil pump pick up modified for strength in a known weak spot
Image
(the yanks havent thought of this yet LOL)
Image
Windage trays came std on FI engines
Image
Scat cams come without gears so some mods are in order
Image
Image
Lifters are reground and parkerised
Image
in order to fit the Hd pump a spacer and some clearancing required
Image
Image
oil filter from a Polo works great
Image
as this is a late IRS type three the stock fuel pump can stil work and engine and gearbox is fitted as one piece
Image
Image
The bus cross member was also modified to mate with the type three body mounts as the engine is about 3cm longer
Image
the gearbox recieved a guiide tube and later release bearing.
Image
The engine is in and I am tidieng wiring etc cant wait to test though
Armand
I also re galvanize the pushrod tubes

Who cares how it's done in California?

Nice work! That engine is going to put some big smiles on the owner's face! This is the best conversion that you can do to any Type 3 :D
If it's too low, you're too old
