Type 3 engine build

So the motor i got with the fasty is fouling the plugs within 50 km.... Needs a rebuild. Have considered getting a runner so I dont have to rush the build, but ended up pulling the motor today. Will post some pics but the plans is to do it myself (with some help). I have someone that can help with stripping and cleaning and measuring, i will arrange parts and assemble. Hopefully i can finish in a month, else I might still look for a runner as i need to do some work on my daily driver.
Ideally i would like a 1641 with a counterweighted crank and mild porting, but standard cam and crank. So far it looks like a new exhaust is in order as the current one has been patched together.

Where's your generator belt cover?

dont go 1641 in a T3, keep it stock. The cc increase wont do much for you, but the thinner cylinders walls might warp.

Good advice chaps will be keeping it stock then... I have the gen cover in my box of removed items..
So just on the lookout for an exhaust and maybe a counterweighted crank.... any suggestions?

My Type 3 motor going in to Elvis I am going to fit the 2.1 76mm crank to bump up the cc and most of all the Torq and will be running a Deep sump or External Oil cooler with the Bellow properly fitted to the fan intake to keep the temperatures at bay as then I am with the std piston cylinder wall thickness

is there anything I should be measuring before disassembling?

I'll be interested to see how the temperatures hold out. I was told not to mess with the performance too much with a T3 cooling configuration as it is borderline enough as it is. I guess the external oil cooler will help a lot already. Keep us posted, will you?

Juergen has fitted the 4-1 EMPI exhaust onto my Notch. It looks nice, with a little U-bend sticking out under the skirt... Don't know how it sounds yet.

Juergen hates it...

Go a nice 4-1 for the beetle, from Arno, looks like a beetle exhaust from outside, but sounds better.

The Empi exhausts are great, but you just need to make sure that it doesn't start rusting, not even surface rust, else it eats thru very quickly

Plascon makes a great fireplace paint which I've used before on exhausts with no issues. It comes in matt black and works great. I would wirebrush the exhaust and give it a few coats. Did it on 3 cars so far and it's an ideal solution.
