Hi all
I am currently building a sort of man cave for the storage of my running cars as I have totally run out off space
Image
it will be 100m2 with some space for storage and recreation.
I am looking for forum members to send me old numberplates to mount on the exposed roof beams.
I need at least a hundred and forty eight plates (not square ones) to mount
Ideally I would like the forum member that donates nickname written on the plate as well as his real name. (not on the back as that will be stuck to the beam.) so that each plate tells a story Your town would be nice as well
I am looking for any plates current ones are ok but old ones better
If you can post to PO Box 220 Orkney 2620 I will be very glad
Armand

When we built our factory I put up a separate structure 24m long by 8m wide using galved IBR (white) and galved channel iron and 75mm galved square poles. It looks quite neat and cost about R50K in materials (structure only not floor/ foundations). Are you building in brick? Are you doing it yourself? What will your roof be made of? My structure was about 4m high and flat roofed. I built it two years ago. If I ever build a man cave I would like to do it the same way. I wonder what the municipal by laws would say about a neat shed in my yard. Do they even care anymore?

The plan for my building will be to build 4 portal frames from 160 x 82 I beams standing free on 8 legs from the same material
the roof will be corrugated iron and will have a 20 degree pitch to match my house
Walls will be built from maxibricks to a height of approximately 3.2 meters
the roof will overhang the walls by about 500mm
the underside of the roof will be covered by a white bubble wrap type material as seen in Game stores so that only the roof beams are visible and they will be decorated with the numberplates.
I will add further photos in the project build section
