'67s and ambulance would usually have had reverse lights with a switch somewhere on the tranny...

How, and where, do I check for this switch?

My reverse light does not work at present, and I want to know why...

The switch is on the tranny nose cone; it looks similar to a brake light switch. You can still get them from a VW dealer; just say it's for a Beetle.

Earlier models had a peculiar contraption on the speedo cable that would switch the reverse light on when the speedo cable changed direction.
