Funny enough I don't know that place but here is the rest of the pics from a mail I received from a buddy of mine.

Some of these photos bring back some fan-%^$@-tastic memories of my childhood. The Malibu Hotel was an annual visit in December, right there in the hot spot of fun for kiddies. Damn, those were great times.

Wonderful pics! We went to 'Toti a few times in the very early eighties, and of course visited the Durban beach front. Does the Mini Town still exist?

When I was in the Army we stayed a few times in the Bluewaters Hotel.

This was posted elsewhere on the Net

On 24/2/2007 Neil Gould wrote:

"I woke up smelling the vinigar on the heavily salted chips we would buy from the Nest, en route to the Kennilworth entertainment building. Big fat square soggy chips they were, in a wax paper packet, with the fattests ones in the middle. Delicious.

I remember pulling up outside the Cuban Hat and the tray being attached to the car window. After giving the order, the waiters would repeat it back to you in their unique chant. The same chant would be sung if you gave the order at the actual counter of the Cuban Hat to the guy at the back doing the cooking. He had a hair lip.

'One pie curry gravy with chips
One toasted chicken mayonase
One Strawberry milkshake, one coke - tanks ser.'

Mr Scordis was the owner of the hat in the late 1960's. I recall his house in Durban North because his wife was strangled during a break-in. My mother drove me past it. It was on the way to the old Umgeni bridge."
The building just sticking out at the back left was the Durban Surf Lifesavers Club Building. It was upstairs and below is the entrance to the Beach Baths or Rachel Finlayson Baths, to give it its proper name."

Yeah, remember Mini Town. That SAL jumbo jet was my favourite! Oh, and the harbour ships. Dunno if it's still there but a lot of kids are missing out on something special if it's gone!

No I think you got it confused with the Santarama - in Turfontein, Johannesburg. Still there (we went on an ACVW visit there earlier this year) but it is badly neglected, and I don't think it is going to be there for long anymore...

But wasn't there another Mini Town on the Durban Beach Front?

Mini town is still there, albeit scaled down(pardon the pun :D) its not as awesome as it was when I was a kid, either that, or I'm finally bigger than the models.
