Volkspares Baywindow exhaust

Has anyone bought and tried the exhaust that they sell? It looks similar to the SP Beetle pipe. I got one from them and I had to bend the one header to match the exhaust port. On the one side the pipe with the flange is to long to fit the heater box. (I don't want to fit J pipes) it's frustrating when you buy something off the shelf that doesn't fit for what is is intended for.

Im consider that same one for my fleetline, they said if im going to renew the whole exaust system from heads to tailpipe, this one with the j pipes will work. My bus got rusted j-pipes - no heater boxes

Besides the fitment to the heater box, let me know how it sound and permorm

Check your engine. Your previous exhaust may also have been modified. I am not saying this is your case but just check first.

This is something I have seen that a silencer fits perfectly on one engine and you can take the very same silencer and it doesn’t fit on another engine, but way off as up to 10mm. We had checked on several motors and on 3 out of 7 it did not fit properly. Being in the exhaust industry, I have heard and seen the complaints and 98% for when claims are submitted it is for fitting issues and when checking the claimed item there was nothing wrong.

Unfortunately the majority of aircooled engines out there have been so abused and made up of mixed spares that an exhaust won’t fit properly. When seeing the cars that claims have been issued from you just can’t believe what some have tried to do, firstly one had even tried to weld the j-pipe to the cylinder head while others had beaten on the exhaust with a 10 pound hammer.

As for the fitting onto the heater boxes, does it have the same type of clamp as the original or a different variety?

I get what you are saying Sean. Maybe the right solution would be to take it to a exhaust shop and have it custom made. I am fitting standard heater boxes with standard clamps. The exhaust flange will need to be shortened in order to fit. As for the condition of the engine, it's a brand new sub assembly with a bucket full of brand new parts.Image

It may also be the case that the exhaust is incorrect, but I suspect it was most probably designed to be fitted to J-pipes. As you say it seems the flange is too long and will need to be shortened as well as the clamps being a similar type as the ones as that was on their makes me think that fitting J-pipes is not the solution as they should be the same length as the original heater boxes.

Flat4racing down here in the Cape sells that system too which several have used without issues but the ones I had seen made use of J-pipes. I suppose it’s difficult to say, it may be a manufacturing defect with the exhaust or a problem with the heater boxes.
