Well I’m guilty of taking everything just for granted and think “it will all be okay”
Just hook it up and there you go....
Got up early to miss the traffic as the Oval Rat was being used for a new Music video in Deinfern.
Well as I got of the M1 of to N1 people just flashed lights.... Then I looked at my mirror just seeing the Oval swinging and then..... a nice white wall rim passed me.
Well after going back, to fetch new nuts and a Jack and dropping the Oval again, On the road coz I didn’t put the handbrake on.... I got there only an hour late. So 1 not broke off in the drum, brand new drum Fooked, rim fooked, some scrapes and ego fooked.

So still not sure A-frame or Trailer. IT’s Always stressful.

I think that same thing happened to the donor car I had. The Backing plate had a flat side on the bottom.
I am of the opinion that trailer is the best means.

I'm glad that was the only damage. lucky lucky guy!

I'm switching to A-frame, the trailer didn't work for me, my car is too low and catches on the gear box, engine, even the fire extinguisher mounting bolts. Still not sure which is safer though...

My heart skipped a beat when I saw title as I wasn't sure if I should open it. But seeing that the author was not the Dark Lord, I opened.

MAN, YOU SO LUCKY!!! Seems like a few guys are loosing their nuts lately, so today I am goin to check each one on my ol' girl!

Well, I guess if Karma is not on your side it ain't on your side, whether you use a trailer or an A-frame, but I think there is a thread on A-frame vs trailer from last week which you could read and make-up your mind on. Tough one I say. :hangloose:

Would give my left nut for that the Oval :D
I always would use a trailer since I don't know the condition of the G/box and drums etc. and would hate to do damage pulling it. Most time the shoes are rusted etc. If it was running then maybe, but hey thats just me.
Nice Bug :hangloose: What are your plans for her?

The first beetle I owned a rotten 69 (when I was 14) left a front wheel behind in Main Street, Rosettinvile, JHB :D Also had to look for the wheel bolts up the road, f-uped the front fender

This happened to me once too it's quite unnerving. I've learned to torque my nuts to 105nm before any trip and I inspect them frequently.
The time my wheel came off.

...hmmm dejavu, I'm sure I've posted this link before.

Phew, you really are lucky, it is a horrible experience. I also had a similar thing happen to me whilst driving a (someone else's ) Karman Ghia on the N1.
Trailer makes for a heavier load to pull, but definetly the safest if you don't know the state of the car. I think a well constructed A frame is also ok - glad your oval did'nt get too damaged ...

In my experience I use a trailer for long distance and unknown mechanical reliability/condition/history. BUT then I also A-Framed The DarkSide to the George Motor Show at 140km/h + with no problems. I did find however that parking lot turns where difficult sometimes due to the front wheels scrubbing and then gripping to turn, jurking the towing car. This I fixed by attaching the AFram to front bullbar, this let the car run half meter further back allowing it to turn easier and was more stable at speed... I wraped material packing straps around the bullbar till the AFram fit snugly and wouldnt slide around and causing, I think the technical term is GROOTE KAK!!! Then again The DarkSide had more km on the clock being towed then it did under its own power... The things we did for the enviroment.... :finger4u:

I collected the car today and when I checked all the other nuts  I realised (my dad) fitted spacers on the car. It’s the Spacers that came Lose and ripple effect.

We haven’t really checked the tyres or nuts since Car’s in the park 2010 and that Car have been to a couple of shows around GP/NW/FS....

So tomorrow I’m gone go back to the “scene” and look for the freaking spacer. That’s after I come back taking it to Parys for a Antique show
